We work with a variety of issues seen in children, including anxiety (social anxiety and general anxiety), depression, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), attention deficient hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other behavioural concerns.
Research suggests that children under the age of 14 have the most desirable outcome when they are provided with one-on-one support in a setting that implements various coping strategies and practices to overcome barriers to mental development. Our child and youth workers strive to provide the appropriate assistance to you and your family in overcoming the challenges you are facing.
Adolescents and teenagers are managing change at an increasing level since 2020. We live in an evolving society in which teens and adolescents have grown up utilizing technology in a more advanced way than ever. This, in turn, creates new barriers, social concerns, and stressors for individuals. We are in an age where children, adolescents, and teens are digital leaders. However, that comes with new complexities such as cyber-bullying, isolation, lack of social interaction, and differentiated areas of need that have to be considered. In addition, the Covid-19 Pandemic has students exposed to new experiences and ways of knowing.
There are many things that teens and adolescents can do to support their well-being and therapy is often a good choice. Talking to a therapist can help adolescents because it is an opportunity to talk about issues, thoughts, emotions, behaviour and physical reactions. Counselling is also a great option for working through ideas, issues, and worries as well as for supporting transitions, challenges, barriers, and goals. Overall, it helps teens to participate in activities related to feeling better or supported, and it lends itself to personal growth and development.
It is our goal to work with both the client and their family (where appropriate), in order to provide them with the means to develop better relationships with both others and themselves. If deemed appropriate, we will make a referral for the teen to see a psychiatrist in order for an assessment to be completed (with wait times of less than 3 months).
